FAQ for inbound students

Will I live with more than one host family?

✅ Yes! Usually you’ll experience 2–3 host families during your year.

Do I need to speak Italian before coming?

✅ No! We’ll help you learn – most students arrive with basic English and learn Italian here.

Who helps me if I have problems?

✅ You’ll have a counselor, Rotex buddies and a Protection Officer available anytime.

Do I need to wear a school uniform?

✅ No! In Italy, students don’t usually wear uniforms. You will go to a local high school and dress like your Italian classmates.

Is Italy safe for exchange students?

Yes! Northern Italy and our cities are very safe. You will always have the support of your host families, Rotarians, counselors and Rotex.

Can I travel during my exchange?

Yes! You can join Rotary trips and travel with your host families, but you must always have permission from your counselor and host parents.

Can my family come visit me?

You will always have your Rotary counselor, your host parents and a Youth Protection Officer ready to help you anytime, 24/7

How do I improve my Italian?

Don’t worry! Most students arrive with little or no Italian. You will learn fast at school and with your host families and you can also attend extra Italian classes!
